How To Avoid Art

Rob Stangle has always been someone who sees things in a different but occasionally, familiar way. From art to music, seeing what was commonplace was never very engaging to him. More concerned with what was under the bridge than what was going over it, so to speak.

From this slightly off-kilter outlook on life, Rob manages to take found sounds such as various objects being thrown inside a water tank, metal hurled thrown on railroad tracks and merges, manipulates, and orchestrates these sounds with modern recording equipment to produce music that is not readily familiar, but easily digested. Somewhere between pop and complete abstraction lies How To Avoid Art - something he's been at for several years.

How To Avoid Art is a string of words that doesn’t really make sense, but “How To Avoid Art” lacks punctuation, and as such, the insertion of a comma, question mark, or colon changes the meaning completely. Originally intended as self-deprecating humor (that is to say, Rob knows what art is and this is not it), it now yields a fuller meaning to Rob and his vision: there is no way to avoid art - it's all around us. Created things point to a creator the same way that design implies a designer. Rob sees art as completely unavoidable, but finds it in the overlooked.

From supporting Compassion International and World Vision to time spent behind the scenes, people are the end goal. Music can sometimes touch people in a way that words reach for. Lives matter and How To Avoid Art is stationed to reach the people that may have been overlooked.
